Gitterman Wealth Management, an independent SEC registered investment advisory firm, recently announced the launch of SMART (Sustainability Metrics Applied to Risk Tolerance) portfolios, an ESG Impact investing strategy provided to fulfill client’s needs.
Developed to pursue outcomes that are socially and environmentally responsible as well as cultivating for clients’ portfolios, Gitterman Wealth Management’s impact investment strategy is in partnership with investment managers who incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings in their portfolio construction process.
“After months of formal review and due diligence, we have created an Impact investing framework that we are excited to implement,” said Jeff Gitterman, Co-Founding Partner of Gitterman Wealth Management.
“There are now screening tools in the marketplace, allowing us to offer portfolios that align with our clients’ personal values while still adhering to our firm’s values of diversified, low-cost and tax-efficient portfolio management.”
SMART portfolios have undergone a rigorous research process that began with an analysis of all 22,000 mutual funds in the Morningstar universe. Morningstar, a leading provider of independent investment research, started using a global rating scale to measure its funds’ ESG ranking as of March 2016. Gitterman Wealth Management further screened high-ranking ESG funds by prospectus directive of ESG-only securities. Then, standard risk and return analysis was applied to determine portfolio designs specific to client needs.
Impact investing is a growing trend in the investment space with a core philosophy of making a positive impact in the world, while also earning market rates of return. Incorporating socially responsible investing (SRI), sustainable investing and mission-based investing, ESG Impact investing provides our clients with the ability to harness the power of the markets and embrace a common mission: investing for a positive societal impact.
Gitterman Wealth Management has been providing customized socially responsible investment options to clients for years. The firm is now better equipped with SMART ESG Impact options due to the new ESG screening tools provided by the investment marketplace.
