A message from The Foundation for University Hospital:

Newark, New Jersey
March 22, 2016

A young motorcycle rider was airlifted from Union County with an open fracture in his leg. The accident caused significant damage to the bone and surrounding muscle — leaving the leg without circulation. Fortunately, the patient arrived at University Hospital, under the care of Dr. Michael Sirkin, BVice Chair and Professor of the Department of Orthopaedics, Trauma Divison. With approximately two-thirds of his leg damaged, and an arterial injury, he faced the possibility of loss of his limb. Multistage procedures involving vascular, orthopaedic and plastic surgeons restored his leg to full function, enabling him to eventually return to his job and his social life. At University Hospital, healthcare providers perform these types of life- and limb-saving┬áprocedures every day and multispecialty treatment is the norm. this is why we are especially proud to support University Hospital and ensure this type of world-class care is available here in New Jersey.

Well-known and recognized for the clinical expertise found at the New Jersey Trauma Center, University Hospital is also an important resource for routine and preventative medical care for residents of Newark and the surrounding community. University Hospital is the only hospital in New Jersey to be awarded Gold Plus recognition by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for Heart Failure and Stroke. We serve as the principal teaching hospital for Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School and School of Dental Medicine.

It is to announce our signature event, the 5th Annual UH Golf Classic, Dinner & Auction, which will be held at Cedar Hill Country Club on Thursday, June 2, 2016. At this special event, we will be honoring Mr. Jeffrey Gitterman, Co-Founder, Gitterman Wealth with the 2016 friend of University Hospital Award.
